About Us
Scotdec is one of six development education centres (DECs) in Scotland. We are based in The School of Education (Moray House) at the University of Edinburgh and serve our local area of Edinburgh and the Lothians, Scottish Borders, Clackmannanshire, Stirling and Falkirk.
We currently have three full-time staff – Charlotte Dwyer (Education Worker), Isabel Ross (Resources Worker) and Susan McIntosh (Co-ordinator). Policy is determined by a voluntary Management Committee comprising a representative from each of our core funders and a number of co-opted members, mainly teachers. Membership of the Management Committee is open to anyone in our local area with a professional and/or personal interest in our work and who lives or works in our local area.
Most of our income is still dependent on grant funding from organisations such as Oxfam, Save the Children, Christian Aid, Amnesty International, Department for International Development and the European Commission for particular projects and core work, we also generate funds through the sale of resources and services, in particular CPD courses.
Much of our work is done collaboratively through the Scottish network, IDEAS (International Development Education Association of Scotland) a network of over 40 organisations and individuals involved in Development Education and Education for Global Citizenship across Scotland.
