About
Scotdec is a Global Education Centre based in central Edinburgh and working in Edinburgh and the Lothians, Scottish Borders, Clackmannanshire, Stirling and Falkirk. There are five other centres in Scotland based in Glasgow, Coatbridge, Dundee, Dingwall and Aberdeen and we work together as the Consortium of Global Learning Centres.
We have three full-time members of staff, an education worker, resources worker and a co-ordinator. Our work is directed by a voluntary Management Committee, currently comprising representatives from development agencies, local authorities, schools and universities as well as interested individuals with and interest or background in this area of work. Membership of the Management Committee is open to those with a professional and/or personal interest in our work. Please get in touch if you are would like to join us.
Most of our income is derived from project funding through such bodies as the Department for International Development, European Commission and other grant funding bodies. We also generate funds through the sale of resources and services, in particular CPD courses.
Scotdec (Scottish Development Education Centre) has been in existence since 1984. Originally known as the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC), it was registered as a charity in 1990 and incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1999. As well as building a reputation for promoting and distributing development education materials, over the past years we have also produced and published a number of popular resources.
Scotdec has implemented and been partners in a number of innovative projects over the years.
We are members of IDEAS (International Development Education Association of Scotland) a network of over 40 organisations and individuals involved in Development Education and Education for Global Citizenship across Scotland.
